Quincy Kane - Brothers to the End ( Instrumental / Visualizer )
Listen on Spotify/AppleMusic/and MORE here:
distrokid.com/hyperfollow/qui...
This is the Instrumental Version of my song "Brothers to the End"; I experimented with a new bass tone (more distorted), I layered some synth over a few lead guitar parts, I added some atmospheric pad elements in the chorus, and used the "telephone speaker" effect for a few moments throughout the song.
When I originally wrote this song, I had just recently discovered the band Between the Buried and Me, so this was just me trying to recreate their sound and style to better understand how to write music like that.
When it came time to writing the lyrics, it was a bit challenging because the music starts off so triumphant, but later takes a dark turn and has something of a "tragic" ending. What could I write about that starts "happy" and ends "sad"?
I thought about my friends moving away, and it seemed to be an appropriate topic for the tone of the music, expressing how we seemed inseparable in the beginning, but gradually divided over time. We're still friends; we still love each other, we just don't see each other much these days. It's kinda sad, but at least we have some joyful memories to look back on.

Solo Artists VS Bands, Live Shows VS Live Streams, and Singles VS Albums (Viewer's Comments #5)
As for piano, I believe it sounds best in a minimal band ideally just with a Bass Player and Drummer.
Yes, I'd probably agree with that; since it can do so much, it can take up a lot of space and make it difficult to cooperate with too many other instruments. This video was intended to have numerous instruments to demonstrate the concept of serving the song and doing what's best for the band, based off the other elements involved. Piano can also work well with orchestral instruments, but I think the piano is usually the "main focus" in those kind of compositions, and all the other instruments are just supporting the piano and building off of the notes being played by it.
Do you also snowboard? Are there differences
I don't snowboard as regularly as I skate, but I have done it before (I actually went earlier this year). The balance is similar, but way you control the board is a bit different. In skating, you basically shift your wait and lean in the direction you want to turn; but if you try to do that on a snowboard, the edge of the board will dig into the snow, you'll get off center and end up slipping out and catapulting yourself to the ground. Instead, you have to steer with you back foot, almost like the rudder of a ship; you dig in your toes and push behind you to go one way, then dig in your heels and push in front of you to go the other way. Also, since the snowboard is attached to your feet, it's fairly easy to jump with the board, where as skating takes a bit more coordination to get the board off the ground; there a pros and cons to both situations. I don't know if you're interested in both, or trying to decide between one or the other, but you should try both of them out if you can! You up some UA-cam videos to learn the basics, spend some time with each of them for a good while, and see how you feel about them. They're both fun, but if I had to choose, I LOVE skateboarding!
I've learned every song on this album besides this one, and it's by far the hardest.
I'm confident you'll be able to do it, and then you'll be able to play the whole album! That's an incredible accomplishment, man! I hope this video is helpful to you; best of luck!
Watching on the #metalheadhippie show. Great track and great video.
Thanks for coming over to comment! I'm glad you like the song and video!

Fun game Quincy and great Cup song. I'm sorry I had to leave. I don't say goodbye, as it takes the attention away from the life.

Hey JT, hope you're doing well! I'll be streaming this evening at 6:30 PM EST; feel free to come by and hang out!
Was there a point here?
The point was to make a short film, and to be entertaining, but that's hard to do when the character doesn't have much "motivation". Back when I made more short films, I always had these big ideas I was excited about, but I didn't have the resources to pull them off. My first solution to that problem was to "dumb down" my ideas; the reason I came up with this story was because I wanted to make "something", and this is the only idea I could come up with that I could actually pull off. But, I actually agree with you; there really wasn't a "point" for me to tell this particular story and make this particular short film. I learned that lesson after not being satisfied with the end result. You might check out my short film "The Initiation"; that's probably my favorite short film I've made, and I handled that one different than this one. Instead of "dumbing down" the idea, I looked at what resources I had available to me first, then came up with an idea I actually wanted to do based off those resources, and the movie came out much better. Here's a link if you'd like to check it out: ua-cam.com/video/oK_pPzHdzos/v-deo.htmlsi=G0eYEqMJRMJq-MqC

🧲 Excellent 🎵
Thanks, Gary!
Oh god! This is so accurate. Going through this right now while working on an album and learning to mix at the same time. This project is going to take a long time!
Haha, it's definitely a bit of a "love-hate" relationship! I will encourage you with this though: This is an older video, and I can say over the years, I've learned a lot more, I understand better, and I become more confident with each mix I produce. So hang in there, and you will get better! A few practical tips: 1) Just do the best you can with the time and resources you have; while you do wanna put out the highest quality you can, don't let it take "too much" time. Even if you put out the "perfect mix", it won't matter if nobody knows who you are, and the only way to gain exposure is to be consistent with releases. Rather than trying to be perfect, just focus on doing better with each project; you can always revisit old projects and re-release them later. 2) The first step is more important than the next; what has the biggest impact on a good mix actually happens BEFORE you even get to the mixing phase. It starts with a good song that is well arranged, then you need good quality recordings of good performances; edit the recordings before hand to create good quality tracks that already work well together and are ready to be mixed. THEN, when you get to the mixing phase, the process usually goes by a lot smoother than trying to fix a bunch of poor quality recordings with weak performances. 3) The foundation of every mix is the Kick Drum, Snare Drum, Bass, and Lead Vocal; these are the elements you should prioritize, as they will elevate the overall quality of the mix. Use some reference tracks for what a good Kick, Snare, Bass, Vocal, and overall Mix sounds like, and periodically compare your mix with your references to make sure you're at least in the ballpark of what sounds good. I hope that helps; let me know if you have any questions, and let me know when the album is done and I'll check it out! Good luck, and have fun!
@@QuincyKane hey, thanks for taking the time to write an in depth reply. The first point really hits with where I am at currently. I've really been trying to listen to my mixes as a listener rather than the artist. Even though it's impossible, it helps me to think: "is this song listenable", rather than "is that sound doing what I wanted it to". Balance is the goal! The second doesn't really apply to me, as I make industrial/breakbeat music, but it does somewhat apply to sample selection and sound design. I've subbed and i'll keep you posted on the album release!! 🤙 Thanks again, and have a good day.
Fantastic song, voice wonderful, love the guitar work , well done best wishes Bowstar in Ireland 🇮🇪 full play ▶️
Thank you, Bowstar! I really appreciate it 🙏
wowwww...awesome!!!connected at you host..hopefully I could catch you up on your live stream soon..
Thanks! Yeah, I go live every Thursday at 6:30 PM EST; would love to see you there!
1:50 Bro, no joke, the recording without the towels sounds more open, natural and just better. At least here on youtube. The towel-recording has muted the highs and added sume weird mid-bass subharmonics, that make the recording sound muddy. Thanks for the video, it confirms my decision to get rid of my vocal booth and just record in the control room.
You're not completely off; I used more coverage in this video than I do now. Now, I don't use the blankets anymore, or a roof; just a few towels around me. However, remember that the most important thing for every track is not how it sounds in solo, but how it sounds in the mix. The towels help prevent picking up any extra, unwanted noise. That recording at 1:50 would NOT work well in a mix; it's better to get a dry take. Even if the recording sounds a little more muted and warmer, it'd be a lot easier to clean it up and add brightness and reverb BACK to it, than trying to get rid of any unwanted reverb or ringing sounds from a recording that didn't use a set up like this.
LOVE this so much!!! Can't wait to see your set tomorrow too...!!!

Nice Bro CU Sunday
Thanks, man; I really appreciate it! 🙏
I think this is also the church offering better acoustics than an apartment room, but I'll try this. Not sure how I'm gonna build this blanket fort though, don't really have stands or whatever. Just trying to start out as a voice over artist and I'm broke as hell lol. But thanks for the idea, I really appreciate how to-the-point this is. Do you think I can use a phone mic for now until I have the means to invest in an actual pro mic?
Yes, if you're just getting started, a phone mic should be more than sufficient! There is a brand called "Fifine" that makes some very high quality, yet affordable microphones (like, some under $50), so they might be worth checking out. There's a lot you can do to get good results out of low budget gear, so don't automatically assume you need an expensive mic to get high quality results. There are probably other videos out there about how to get good recordings with low budget or phone mics. Now, if you're just doing voice over and not singing, you might not have to stand up while recording; so if you have some tall chairs or something, you may be able to hang some towels on them and get on your knees to be at the same level with them. You may be able to do a little thrift shopping or look on Craigslist to find something to hang your towels on that's very affordable, or maybe something that's being given away for free. Anyway, I hope this gives you some ideas, and all I can say is "don't wait"; just do the best you can with what you have, and try to do better with each project, and before you know it, you'll learn how to get high quality results!

Hi Quincy, hey I was just thinking that it might be cool if sometime we do a bracket for best band or artist that was really big in a certain decade
That's a good idea, Silas; thanks for sharing! I'll write it down and keep it in mind for future streams!
@@QuincyKane oh thank you, glad to talk
Very well put video and easy to understand thank you! But I wonder how you would put vocals into a track like this? Would the lead guitar be the only one playing differently to accompany the vocals or are other instruments affected also, if so which ones?
Yes, it would've been nice if I could've had vocals in this example as well. I would suggest listening to a few different songs (especially popular songs) from a few different artists and pay attention to what the music is doing when the vocalist ISN'T singing vs what the music is doing when the vocalist IS singing. A lot of times with guitar music, the lead guitar will play some kind of melody while the vocalist isn't singing, then either bail out completely or play a very simple pattern or complimentary layer while the vocalist is singing. Most of the other instruments are only providing rhythm, dynamics, and chord movements; think of that as the "foundation" of the music. But, what makes music more interesting and effective is when you have a "Melody" on top of that foundation. The melody will likely come from ONE INSTRUMENT that is taking the "Lead"; it could be a Vocal, a Guitar, a Synth, a Piano, Violin, Saxophone, or just about anything. But, you usually want ONE clear melody; if you have too many different melodies going on at once, things can start to sound messy. It's ok to have multiple instruments supporting the melody by playing the same notes (maybe on a different octave), or a part that harmonizes. Sometimes, you can even have "counter melodies" that play to fill in any spaces where the main melody is taking a break. Hopefully that gives you a few ideas of how it works, but like I said; try listening to some songs and taking note of what they do, and then try experimenting with your own music and see what works, what doesn't, and try to figure out why it did or did not work. Hope that helps!
@@QuincyKane Thanks for the quick reply. I've been slowly getting used to differentiating instruments and listening to their parts so this really helps a lot, thank you!
My bassist wanna SOLO, more passing note and LOUDEST volume, it's ok, find another bass .
